Splattered acrylic paint can really liven up a painting! I love splattering paint onto the backgrounds of my colourful animal paintings. I have tried loads of different paint flicking techniques and this is by far the best one I have found!
Check out the video tutorial below!
Time to splatter some paint!
For this paint splattering technique, you will need:
- Acrylic paint (preferably soft body or fluid paint)
- Water
- A small pot (for mixing the paint)
- Palette knife
- Canvas/art paper
Step 1:
Add some acrylic paint to your pot, then add some water and mix it together with the palette knife. The consistency should be thin, but just about thick enough so that it stays on the knife and doesn’t drip off. If the paint is too runny, add some more paint, if it is too thick then just add a little bit more water.
Step 2:
Once your acrylic paint is the right consistency, dip the palette knife in and then flick your wrist in a quick motion whilst tapping the knife. The paint should fly off of the knife and land onto your canvas!
Continue to do this as with as many colours as you like until you reach your desired outcome.
Step 3:
If any paint splatters land where you don’t want them, don’t worry! Just get a small piece of paper towel and dip it in some water, then gently rub off the splatters that you don’t want. Just make sure you do this while the paint splatter is still wet!
